Questions about applying to Ruvimo

Everything candidates ask us most often, from before you apply through to onboarding. If your question is not here, your dashboard has a "Send us a note" box that reaches our team directly.

Before you apply

What videos do I need to record?

Two, each 1 to 2 minutes. The first is an introduction a family would see: who you are and how you teach. The second is you explaining one concept from a subject and grade you teach.

Neither needs to be produced or edited. We look at how you communicate, structure an explanation, and hold a student's attention. If you already have something suitable on your phone, upload it; most tutors do that rather than recording fresh.

Record alone, teaching to the camera as if a student were there. Do not send a recording of a live class or a real session: a child visible in frame means we have to ask you to record again.

There is a suggested structure for each video inside the builder. If you do not have them ready today, save your profile and come back to finish.

Will I teach US students?

Most tutoring opportunities are for US K-12 students. In the profile builder, you'll tell us whether you can regularly teach during US evening hours: Yes, Limited, or No. If you choose Limited, list the specific days and local hours that work for you.

How many subjects and grades can I list?

Up to three subjects, and grades within two neighbouring bands. Each grade stays paired with the subject you teach it for, so you are never asked to claim a grade in a subject you do not teach.

The limit exists so the teaching round assesses something specific. A profile listing everything is harder to match to real demand, not easier.

Profiles saved before this limit existed keep what they already have.

Can I save and come back later?

Yes. Your profile saves as a draft at every step, and the link in your email brings you straight back to where you left off. Nothing is submitted for review until you finish and press submit.

While your profile is in review

How long does profile review take?

Usually 2-3 business days. Review timelines can vary with subject demand and current tutoring requirements. Complete profiles are easier to evaluate quickly.

Your dashboard shows how long yours has actually been waiting, so you never have to guess. If it goes well past the usual window, the dashboard will say so and tell you to get in touch.

How do I know where my application has reached?

Your dashboard shows your current stage, what happens next, and how long the current step usually takes. It is the same view our team sees, so it is always current.

You do not need to ask for an update: every decision is emailed to you as it happens.

My profile came back with changes requested. Is that a rejection?

No. It means we want your application to succeed and something specific is missing or unclear. Your email lists exactly what to update.

Make those changes and resubmit; it goes back into review, normally within 2-3 business days of resubmission.

Can I change my profile after submitting?

Not while it is under review, so that everyone is assessed on the profile they submitted. If we ask for changes, it reopens for editing.

You can change your primary subject up until the point teaching evidence is attached to it, since that choice decides which topic you are assessed on. If something important is wrong and you cannot fix it yourself, contact support.

Interviews and teaching rounds

What happens after my profile is shortlisted?

Depending on your profile, you'll either be invited straight to a live interview, asked to record a teaching round first (reviewed by our team, then a live round), or invited to a combined live interview and teaching round.

We'll tell you which applies to you and email full details on how to prepare.

What is the difference between the interview and the teaching round?

The interview is a conversation with our team about your experience, availability and setup. The teaching round is a teaching assessment: you teach, and it is scored against a fixed rubric.

They are separate events with separate criteria. Some candidates do one, some do both. Your confirmation email lists exactly what your round covers and how it is assessed.

How long does a recorded teaching round take to review?

Usually 3-4 business days from submission. Take the time you need to record it well; there is no advantage to rushing.

I already recorded a teaching video. Why am I asked for another?

They are different assessments. The short video in the profile builder is a teaching sample on a topic you choose. The teaching round is longer, on a topic we assign, and scored against a full rubric that needs a complete lesson: diagnosing what the student knows, modelling, letting them attempt it independently, and closing.

A 1 to 2 minute clip cannot show most of that, which is why it is not simply reused.

No interview slots are showing, or booking fails. What now?

New slots open regularly, usually within the next few days.

If slots look available but booking fails, or none appear for more than a few days, that is not something you should have to wait out. Contact support and we will sort it out or book you in directly.

I missed my interview. Is my application over?

No, and it costs you nothing. Book another slot from your dashboard whenever you are ready.

My teaching round video will not upload.

Try recording directly in the browser on the upload page rather than uploading a file, which avoids most format and size problems.

If it still will not go through, contact support with the device and browser you are using. Do not keep retrying: if something is wrong at our end, we would rather know.

Pay, selection and onboarding

When do I find out my pay rate?

Once you clear your round, our team confirms your hourly rate based on your country, subjects, and grade bands before final approval.

You'll see a personalized estimate on your dashboard from the moment you submit your profile. That estimate is indicative; the confirmed rate is the one in your approval email.

I have been selected. What does onboarding involve?

Three steps, all tracked on your dashboard: completing KYC verification, reading the onboarding kit, and an onboarding call with our operations team.

Being selected is not the same as being active. Those three steps are what turn an approved profile into a tutor who can be matched to students.

When do I start teaching?

Once onboarding is complete, our operations team matches you to trial sessions as demand appears in your subjects and grades. Timing depends on demand, so it is not a fixed date.

Keeping your availability current is the single most useful thing you can do to be matched sooner.

If you are not selected

Why was my application not successful?

Your dashboard and your outcome email carry the feedback from your review, including suggested next steps where our team could give them.

Decisions weigh your teaching evidence, the subjects and grades you teach, and current demand together. A profile that is not right for us today is not a judgement on you as a teacher.

Can I apply again?

Not immediately with the same profile, and reapplying straight away does not change the outcome. If your circumstances change materially, such as new subjects, new qualifications or different availability, write to us rather than starting a fresh application.

Still stuck?

If something on the site is not working, such as a video that will not upload or slots that will not book, please tell us rather than waiting it out. Sign in and use "Send us a note", or write to tutorhiring@ruvimo.com.
